• Mainstream HD Web-Movies won’t be around for many more years to come. They require broadband internet connections - and only 50% of US households have access to them by 2008.
• According to comScore, almost 70% of the online population has watched online video.
• The average internet user consumes 73 minutes of online video every month.
• Most reviews don’t give YouTube the “top video sharing site” crown. Blip and the now terminated Stage6 have been the best rated sites.
• According to HitWise, YouTube takes up 75% of the Video site market share in the US. (MySpaceTV 9%, Google Video 3.7%, Yahoo Video 1.9% and Veoh 1.1%).
• Among the top 5 players in this industry, only Veoh and Youtube gained market share compared to last year.
• YouTube started with 58,000 monthly visitors back in August 2005. Now it’s almost at 59 Million monthly vistors.
• 136 Million people watch web videos every single month.
• Youporn has been blocked in Germany by some broadband providers and by Google. It was unblocked by most providers and big G after implementing an own age-confirmation system (are you 18? Enter/Leave - duh).
• 54% of internet traffic is video-related. Many tech’s have been alerting that if providers don’t keep investing in new infrastructure, the internet could start slowing down by 2010.

There are some major features I’ve been implementing in the last months. Now the time has come to get some shine on them features!

#1: Search for movies
Yeah, under all those neat gimmicks, there’s still the main purpose of this site. You can simultaneously search for clips on the 8 biggest movie sites out there. Still, you’ll probably get the most content from YouTube though.

Well, at least that’s not my fault. YouTube still one of the most-visited sites worldwide and with a market share of 75% surely the biggest movie-sharing site online on teh interwebs.

#2: Share movies
Found some great movie? Well, that’s good for you. Why not make it good for mankind? Register and start sharing your favorite movies. This way you’ll be much more likely to find persons who also like the same categories of web videos as you do!

#3: Save your movies
Well, that’s somehow more of a side-effect from #2. If you share them, you’ll also be able to access the saved clips years after sharing them for years to come.

#4: Recommend a movie
Found those movies from your old days where you and your friends are partying hard (getting wasted & naked, u know)? Don’t keep them to yourself. Share them with your friends over by email or just link them to the results page.

Now its time to start the party and get ClipCrawl going! Because seriously: I don’t want to look back at all of these hours I spent coding this and think about it as an epic failboat.

At least for Youtube and for Revver. All other sites are not implemented yet because they are lacking transparency in the way they store their thumbnails. They probably need to be gathered by every single video site’s API.

So no luck for them being included here :-).

Of course we will also take a look at usability. Concentrating more on hotspots and making people stay longer on our site

Since the first version I’ve been looking to turn clipcrawl somehow more viral. Now our users are able to recommend specific movies to their friends.

In the future, we’re looking to get an inviter done which can work together with gmail, yahoo and msn contact lists.

Also, we’re looking forward to enable the recommending of the site itself

The code we use for crawling sites for movies now is completely different. Thanks to jQuery we are also able to display movies we found directly on our page.

You defenitely should check out out our new version. It’s like we’ve changed from one universe to another. The results are SO MUCH better now. And, seriously, the site is getting more useable and really something you can recommend your friends.

No promotion yet

We’re not experiencing a lot of visitors yet - mainly because I haven’t started promoting this new version. The reason for my shyness on this is pretty simple. I haven’t yet included everything I want to. And I don’t want to launch another not 100% ready project again.
